Right now Optimize allows users to see always the latest state of variables for a process instance.
There are use cases where variable updates can allow me to identify room for process improvement.
As an example:
In insurance industries when their customers send in documents the companies try to automatically process as many documents as possible. Only in certain situations documents have to be manually handled.
This can be e.g. the case if the OCR software identified a wrong value from a a paper document. In such case a clerk has to manually go in and change the value of the variable to the correct value. In exactly this scenario a variable update has therefore led to negative process performance. There are ways of telling the OCR software to spend more time on scanning so that the result for certain fields are better and manual intervention can be circumvented. This costs of course time too but is still shorter than manual intervention.
If Optimize was able to inform Process Owners about frequent variable updates of the same variable then this could be used for root-causing bottlenecks.
