Context:
*Let's say you are a report that are based on a variable, this means that the report is either:

• The view set to a variable
• The group by is set to variable
• The distributed by is set to variable
  and then you switch the definition or the version of that report to a different one.
  In this case, we reset the report selection because the new definition or version might not have that same variable.
  However, it is possible to improve this a little by keeping the report selection if the variable exists in the new definition or version.

AT:
When changing the definition or version on a report and the variable still exists in the new definition or version,

• Keep the selected variable (no change to the view, group by or distributed by)
