Currently, to select portions of a diagram for further actions, one needs to open a dialog over a diagram in order to select parts of it there, close/confirm the dialog. This seems much more convoluted/cumbersome than it needs to be, there should be a way to make a selection on the diagram itself w/o an additional dialog.
