Cannot set a complex Java object variable when it is deleted in the same transaction

      Current behavior:

      When a complex Java object is set/updated as a variable and it is removed in the same transaction, a NullPointerException is thrown in DeserializedObject#flush

      Backport to 7.2 maintenance branch required.
