Description
Java and REST API
The response identifies:
- to which executions a message was correlated (in case of intermediary events)
- to which process definition a message was correlated (in case of start events) together with the process instance id of the new instance (we might also omit the process definition id since it can be derived from the process instance id
Implementation notes:
- changing the return type of the correlation API from void to some kind of correlation result dto may breaks binary backwards compatibility of the API (i.e. artifacts that use this API need to be recompiled when upgrading the engine); this would have to be documented in the update guide; as an alternative, we could add another API endpoint to correlate with a result
