      Our windows users report that the docs build unbelievably slow (8sek and more).

      We should investigate this.

            [CAM-6140] Investigate Hugo build performance on Windows

            What I did was:

            File Explorer -> Right Click on Drive -> Properties

            Tools -> Optimize

            Select Drive -> Optimize

            Maybe someone can test if this changes anything for him.

            Windows 7 does not have the "Optimize" feature.

            Afaik defragmentation is useless with SSDs.

            I also tried installing Samsung SSD Magician which offers certain tools for Samsung SSDs, however it does not work with OEM Samsung SSDs such as mine.

            Sorry I don't have a Windows 7 system near me to test. Maybe we can look into it on Thursday. Currently I think it is related to the NTFS filesystem and not the go binary as I see the same execution times with the linux binary running on the mounted NTFS drive. Whereas the times on an ext4 partition are still faster.

            I tried the "Optimize" feature (Windows 10), but it did not change anything.

            Without the "-w" option it's close to 3 seconds, with "-w" it's around 8 seconds.

            Sure. For me it's not a big problem to wait 7 instead of 3 seconds anyway.

            Hi all,

            I just updated our patched Hugo version to the latest Hugo release v0.16. You can download it from the nexus: https://app.camunda.com/nexus/content/repositories/public/hugo/

            philipp.ossler could you test if this version improves the performance on your machine?

            Cheers,
            Sebastian

            sebastian.menski: this version is much faster - especially in watch mode (server -w). Thanks!

            I close the issue for now as v0.16 does seem to improve the performance. Feel free to reopen if the performance drops again.
