The description of the defaultNumberOfRetries could be misleading, in the sense that a user could understand that a job is executed and if it fails it will be retried for defaultNumberOfRetries times. Instead the job will be maximal defaultNumberOfRetries executed. So a user who wants no retries of failed jobs has to set the value to 1 and not {{0}.
